A state trooper shot and killed a man in Apache County late Saturday night, state officials said.
Police opened fire near U.S. Highway 191 and East Sun Lane in Saunders, Arizona at approximately 10:15 p.m., killing one suspect, Public Safety Department spokesman Bert Graves said.
Graves did not provide details of what led to the shooting.
No officers were injured and there are no other suspects, Graves said.
An investigation into the incident by the DPS is ongoing, Graves said. No other information was provided.
At least 18 people have been shot by DPS troopers since 2019, according to analysis by The Arizona Republic.

Overall, police shootings have spiked across the state. There will be a total of 82 police shootings statewide in 2021 and 42 police shootings so far in 2022.
