LARRY ELDER: Democrats Still Haven’t Accepted That Trump Won

After President-elect Donald Trump relied on dissident Republican House members to forcefully push for Speaker Mike Johnson’s re-election, Congressional Democrats and Republicans alike marveled at Trump’s power and influence.

When the Supreme Court decided unanimously Colorado cannot prevent Trump from appearing in the state’s primary, said Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), a defiant member of the House Jan. 6 committee. . At CNN, Ruskin said: “I disagree with that interpretation simply because other parts of the 14th Amendment are automatic. We are working to establish a process for determining disqualification under Article 14, Section 3.”

Just a few days ago, the former president of the New York City Bar Association Co-authored work It was published in The Hill and urged House Democrats to oppose Trump’s certification. “The Constitution says that insurrectionists who break their oath are not eligible to serve as president. This is the plain language of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. The evidence that he was involved is overwhelming.”

But January 6, 2025 is gone. Talk by Democrats of objecting to the “insurrection” designation quickly disappeared, and the certification of Trump’s victory proceeded without a hitch. why? Trump’s stunning come-from-behind victory proved that playing the anti-Trump Nazi/dictator/insurrection/threat to our country card no longer works. Democratic Party Strategist James Carville said:: “Voters want an election about them. They don’t want an election about you or your opponent. And we lost it because there was too much of it. I We lost it ourselves. We made it about Trump, but we didn’t make it about voters.”

Still, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York contrasted the Democratic Party, which is said to have accepted the election results, with the Republican Party, which is “denying the election.” In certifying Trump, Jeffries said: “There’s no one on our side denying the election. People are supposed to love America, whether we win or lose. That’s the patriotic thing to do, and we love this country. So this is America that House Democrats will fight hard to preserve.”

A year into Trump’s inauguration, this congressman displayed an absolutely stunning display of disrespect. tweeted: “The more we learn about the 2016 election, the more illegitimate it becomes. America has a right to know if there is a fake president in the Oval Office.”

MSNBC host Joy Reid It also remained Trump in insurrectionist mode: “Fourteen days from today, you’ll hear many calmly applauding the peaceful transfer of power. We can’t…Let’s face it, this would be a violent transfer of power, the most violent in American history.”

Sunny Hostin, co-host of “The View,” addressed the following themes: hysterical level: “January 6th was an atrocity, so don’t move on. It’s one of the worst moments in American history. World War II, the Holocaust, chattel slavery, all the worst moments in American history.” When we think about the past, we must never forget it, because it becomes the prologue.”

“Holocaust”? “World War II”? “Chattel slavery”?

But Trump’s election victory, the collapse of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Trump “election interference” case, and Trump’s rising approval rating mean that even a large portion of Democratic voters want to move on. It shows.

Well, what is it? Expect Democrats to claim that “ruthless” Republicans trying to keep the federal budget under control by reining in spending are trying to kill Grandma. Recent Congressman James Clyburn (DS.C.) provided a preview: “…we have to explain the problem to the American people in a way that they can understand. Let me give you a good example: Medicaid… Every family in America needs what Medicaid provides, but we don’t explain it to people, especially in rural areas. We don’t know that these nursing homes are funded through Medicaid, and we continue to ignore it as something only for low-income people and not for other families. We have to go to the American people…and that’s something we’re not doing enough of.”

So look to the Democratic Party, the party of DEI. Abortion; climate change. Israel is an apartheid state. Republicans are racist/sexist/bigots. And the class struggle – to regain their footing, strengthen and restart the anti-Trump “resistance”.
