Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz appeared on FOX Business Wednesday to accuse Democrats of weaponizing the Department of Justice (DOJ) against President-elect Donald Trump, and to criticize Pam during Wednesday’s confirmation hearing.・He also praised Bondi’s performance.
Monaka exterior On “The Bottom Line,” Cruz accused Democrats of hypocrisy and called their actions self-defeating.
“I think Pam Bondi did a great job at today’s hearing. I think she’ll be confirmed as attorney general. She’s a very strong choice,” Cruz said.
Cruz said Democrats were “making a fool of themselves,” adding that some of their comments were sarcastic.
“What they were attacking Pam Bondi with is what Joe Biden’s Justice Department has been doing for four years. [they] They politicized and weaponized the Department of Justice,” Cruz said.
Cruz added that there has been a change in prosecutorial practices when it comes to former presidents, and that only happened under recent Democratic oversight.
“Until Democrats came to power, we had never indicted or prosecuted a president or former president, and in the past four years, Democratic prosecutors have indicted Donald Trump on four separate occasions. Pam Bondi will restore integrity to the Department of Justice,” Cruz said. During the hearing, Democratic California Sen. Adam Schiff told Bondi he rejected what he claimed were illegal instructions from President-elect Donald Trump, instead offering advice that may differ from Bondi’s views. I asked him if he could do it. Mr. Schiff asked Mr. Bondi whether he intended to preserve the evidence gathered by the Jan. 6 task force in prosecuting former Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney.
Mr Bondi said he would abide by legal standards and consult with ethics authorities within the Department of Justice regarding the committee’s evidence. She said she has not received any requests for an investigation or criminal charges against Cheney.
President Trump nominated Bondi as his attorney general nominee after former Republican Florida congressman Matt Gaetz decided to withdraw his nomination.
