“The Young Turks” co-host Ana Kasparian said on Thursday’s podcast that confirmation hearings for President-elect Donald Trump’s nominees are “nothing more than political theater” for Democrats.
President Trump’s nominees appeared before senators starting Tuesday, including Pete Hegseth for defense secretary, Pam Bondi for attorney general, and Marco Rubio for secretary of state. These senators asked President Trump’s nominees about their qualifications and expectations for joining the new Trump administration. On “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Kasparian likened the lawmakers’ call to action to a “performance” and said he agreed with some of the questions Democratic New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand posed to Hegseth. Kasparian did not elaborate on what those questions were.
“Yeah, I mean, I think a lot of these hearings end up being performances. It’s really political theater. Right now, for Democrats, all they need to confirm these Trump nominees is a simple majority in the Senate. This is nothing but political theater,” Kasparian said. “So they are using this as an opportunity to communicate their political virtues to their base.”
During Hegseth’s confirmation hearing on Tuesday, Gillibrand spent eight minutes lecturing Hegseth about the need for women in the military.
On his podcast, Kelly criticized some of the Democratic women who criticized Hegseth, saying their tone and comments reflect poorly on women in high office. (Related: ‘F*ck You’: Megyn Kelly slams CNN pundit who denied Hegseth’s qualifications as ‘disgusting’)

“I’m tired of our fellow women stepping into the halls of power acting like the hysterical women that so many men still believe they are. For the love of God do it Want to keep her together? [Gillibrand] He was screaming. I was in the room and she was like, ‘What you said hurt.'” Kelly said. “Her expression looked broken. She seemed overly emotional and playing to a stereotype. It was disrespectful.”
“Then you crossed the line, [and it] It got worse,” Kelly added. “So that was a lot of what I objected to. I don’t hear men acting like that. We really need to be a little more professional. Not throwing as many punches as we can with rhetoric and words. You can, but don’t break your tone. The nature of your nose, facial expressions, tearful expressions, and un-Botoxed eyebrows will excuse it.”
With diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) measures reportedly being introduced in the military, Hegseth has taken a firm stance against women who serve in combat missions, but Gillibrand has taken this as a stance against women in the military. denounced it as an insult to But Mr Hegseth said that while he had “never looked down on women’s military service” and “respected” them, he was concerned that standards were “degrading”.
