Laveen Compost Manufacturing Company, which was sued by Maricopa County for making mulch on land not zoned for the operation, is scheduled to close this month.
The operators of Arizona Green Guys have agreed to a settlement.
Mulching work started last year. However, the construction violated zoning regulations and the property was labeled a public nuisance.
Currently, the owners are unable to bring any more compostable materials onto the property and must remove most of the mulch.
Work to achieve this is only permitted during the day on weekdays. Screening must be stopped and the crusher removed by January 20th.
Supervisor Steve Gallardo said in a statement that Maricopa County had to take action because the company’s operations are impacting the health and well-being of its residents.
