Elon Musk will join the first cabinet meeting of President Donald Trump’s second administration, with White House press chief Carolyn Leavitt making an announcement at a briefing on Tuesday.
Trump’s first cabinet meeting is scheduled for Wednesday. Musk is designated as a “special government employee” and serves as Trump’s director of government efficiency.
The president, vice president, president, ministerial secretary, and White House chief of staff are usually present at cabinet meetings.

On Saturday, Musk told all federal employees to report what they did last week or be fired. Federal employees were then given a second chance to respond to the Office of Human Resources (OPM) productivity check-in email before facing termination.
“Look at everyone standing here and ask why people are angry at their boss, Americans, and the president of the United States, what you did at work,” he said. President Alina Haba told reporters Tuesday. “How stupid.”
One million federal employees have responded since the email request, Leavitt said Tuesday. (Related: Exclusive: Doge asks NIH employees: So, what do you do around here? )

Some agency managers, such as FBI Kash Patel and directors of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, have told agencies to ignore emails from Musk’s team.
“Everyone works as one team. The president is not interested in national security and clearly doesn’t want to risk Confidential so he tells staff not to respond to that email. Respect the decision of the Cabinet Secretary of the Cabinet. Leavitt states of various directives: “It’s pretty common sense.”
