Maricopa County Community College District and Chandler Gilbert Community CollegeI recently participated Arizona Governor Katy Hobbsthe Arizona Department of Commerce, and partners of Boeing and Honeywell, will be launching the first Aerospace & Defense Future48 Workforce Accelerator.
According to a press release, the aerospace and defense-focused facility will open in 2026 at CGCC’s Williams campus, bringing together students and industry partners to shape the future of Arizona’s aerospace manufacturing workforce.
“We are extremely honored to be selected as the second Future48 Workforce Accelerator,” said MCCCD Prime Minister Dr. Steven R. Gonzales. “Through this opportunity, our systems provide the critical education and training needed for today’s aerospace and defense manufacturing workforce. We look forward to empowering individuals and driving innovation in this high-demand industry.”
MCCCD will receive $6 million from the ACA to support cutting-edge training facilities.
Accelerator will expand CGCC’s aviation program based on existing products such as aircraft maintenance technology. It offers affordable degrees and certificate routes in aircraft, power plants, comprehensive maintenance, and airway science and technology.
“To realize Arizona’s promises means connecting Arizona with the job of raising a future family,” Gov. Hobbs said. “This new program is part of my administration’s ongoing commitment to boost our workforce and creates a pathway for community college students to begin their careers in aerospace and defense manufacturing. Through partnerships like this, Arizona will remain at the forefront of a critical industry that will help us stay safe and secure.”
The expansion supports roughly 1,000 students a year, couples learners with industry-related experience and practical training, preparing them for highly-paid careers in aerospace and defense manufacturing.

Arizona is a central hub for aerospace, defense and manufacturing, with over 1,200 companies making nearly $15 billion a year, including Boeing Company, Honeywell Aerospace, General Dynamics and Virgin Galactic.
This sector is extremely important to Arizona’s economy, with strong demand for aviation mechanics, electrical and mechanical gatherings, wiring and skilled professionals in composite materials. The state ranks in the top five of the largest employment opportunities, providing employment opportunities to more than 62,000 Arizonans.
