Republican Florida Rep. Byron Donald called on CNN on a double standard for the high price range in the Biden era and President Donald Trump’s administration.
After the tariffs were postponed in Mexico, CNN host Pamela Brown asked lawmakers about the negative impact Trump’s tariffs have on markets and US businesses. In response, Donald accused CNN of allowing former president Joe Biden to “escape” inflation and high prices through his presidency, but now focuses on the possible economic impact of Trump’s tariffs on Canada and China.
“Now, I’m going to repeat myself a bit here. It’s important to stabilize the fact that we need to secure borders and stop the flow of fentanyl, not just economic relations around the world,” Donald said. “Give Donald Trump the opportunity to actually negotiate with the President of Mexico and Canada and China. You should give them the opportunity because when prices were rising in the US, I didn’t hear CNN talk so much. In fact, while you were hurting Americans, you ignored most of it. So let the President negotiate about tariff policy, and it will work.” (Related: “We’re hoping for fairness”: Navarro defends tariffs to fight the cartel, protects China’s control and saves America’s lives)

Brown pushed back saying CNN actually covered inflation under the Biden administration.
“You didn’t cover it in the way you needed to cover it. Just be honest,” Donald said. “You made the last administration run away with it, and as a result, the Americans suffered.”
“That’s your opinion, but we did,” Brown said.
“Oh, no, that’s not my opinion. That’s true,” Donald said.
Trump announced on Thursday that he has postponed import tariffs in Mexico and Canada, 25% tariffs on China on Tuesday, and that he would allow illegal immigration and fentanyl to pour into the US, which is covered by the existing US Presidential Agreement (USMCA), the trade agreement between the existing US Presidential Agreement (USMCA), Shanebaum.
When Trump first announced tariffs in February, Shanebaum and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau fell into the president’s demands by bolstering their efforts to combat the illegal immigration and the fentanyl epidemic. Mexico deployed a 10,000-man National Guard at the US-Mexican border, but Trudeau has pledged to reinforce the Canadian border and invest $1.3 billion to appoint “Emperor Fentanyl.”
During the Biden administration, inflation surged from 1.4% when it first peaked at 9% in 2022.
CNN has released it article In August 2021, Biden attempted to “fact-check” Republicans who denounced rising costs, ABC News Called Biden’s responsibility to “mislead” the June 2024 inflation. In May 2024, CNN’s Erin Burnett was not I’ll push it back When he took office, he mistook it to Biden that inflation was already at 9%, suggesting that inflation was at record highs during Trump’s first term.
In June 2022, “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg argued that Biden was doing everything he could to lower prices, but co-host Sunny Hostin argued that the president had little control over the issue as inflation is a global issue.
