In an ongoing debate about academia’s political bias, lawyer Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax Friday that there is no legal basis for the university to use taxpayer funds to support political programs.
Following allegations of anti-Semitism and pro-Hamas protests at Columbia University, the Trump administration reportedly has decided to cut $400 million in federal funds to institutions. Appearing in “Records with Greta Van Susterlen,” Dershowitz I said He says the school is ready to protect the Trump administration because it is not entitled to fund political programs.
“There’s always a legal challenge. Darshoots wants to publicly volunteer to defend the Trump administration from legal challenges, unless there’s no interference in free speech or first amendment rights,” he said when asked whether he expects legal challenges from some of the Trump administration’s actions, saying, “Universities and universities don’t have the right to have a taxpayer money fund political program. And if there’s a legal challenge, I’ll help defend it if asked, and I think they’ll fail.”
Dershowitz also highlighted trends at major universities where external groups, including those that describe as anti-Semitics and anti-Americans, receive heavily funded and supported. Specifically, he pointed out the existence of Code Pink. Code Pink says it is supported by the Chinese Communist Party. He said he is using anti-Israel sentiment to undermine American values and the integrity of higher education. (Related: Linda McMahon says there are education departments launching federal crackdowns on anti-Semitism at elite schools like Harvard, Columbia)
“All major universities now have an organization called Code Pink. We know that it is funded by the communist China. It is by the Chinese Communist Party, Code Pink. It appears on most American university campuses. They use anti-Israel sentiment as an excuse. It is all designed to defeat America. It is all designed to destroy American higher education,” Dershowitz said.
Dershowitz said these are part of a broader effort by several educational programs to promote leftist ideology under the guise of academic discourse.
“Qatar sends billions of dollars of conditional funds to American universities that have been conditioned to employ biased professors. Yale University today had to fire someone who was found to be an Iranian spy working against the US in Mullah, Iran, and an Iranian spy hired by Yale Law School in the so-called human rights program,” says Dershowitz. “Yall Law School has no human rights program. It has a human mistakes program. It is simply designed to promote left-wing ideology. This must be seen and rooted on all major university campuses.”
Dershowitz said this similar initiative at other universities is effectively opposed to being anti-American and anti-Semitic, with the aim of destabilizing traditional Western values.
“It’s not enough to just chase radical professors. These programs, these bureaucrats, are at the heart of anti-American, anti-Semitic, anti-Western values that teach students to teach about intersectionality,” Dershowitz said.
The American Federation of Teachers and the American Sociology Association filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, challenging efforts to curb diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in educational institutions. They said a Feb. 14 Ministry of Education memo that threatens to cut federal funding for schools engaged in racist practices distorts the legal framework that governs racial considerations in educational settings.
President Donald Trump has actively sought to eliminate subjects similar to DEIs from schools and federal agencies by issuing executive orders banning federal funding on these topics. Nevertheless, many school administrators have ignored Trump’s instructions.
