Beware friends and neighbors in Berkshire County!Has malicious LARGE-SCALE phishing attack It’s now making rounds on Facebook and Tik Tok and doing quite a bit of damage.
according to malware tips, the scam began appearing late last year but surged in January. This phishing attack spreads via Facebook messages, Messenger, and Tik Tok.
This scam revolves around receiving a message containing the following text:
look at the people who died in the accident
Be heed these words, whether in a Facebook message or received as a text. No Click it.
that is No Legitimate news article. A very bad scam. Once you open the message, it attempts to steal your login credentials and trick you into clicking a link that infects your device with malware.
One of the really terrifying aspects of the “see someone who died in an accident” scam is that it uses people’s emotions to trick them into thinking that a friend or acquaintance died in an accident…even worse, this scam works.
First, send a message from a compromised account (usually a friend) containing a “Look at the dead…” link. that’s all. After clicking that link, it’s too late. There was damage.
Worse than that, it doesn’t end with you. Malware tip says:
The malware then unknowingly spreads the same link and message to all your friends. This means that scams can spread quickly and affect many people.
And because the message is designed to urgently prompt you to want more details, many people are either without thinking about what they’re doing, or perhaps they’re getting serious. You click links in haste (understandably) without thinking about the implications first.
To keep yourself and your personal data safe, be extra careful with the links you click. and, super strong password is very important. For more information on the “Find Accidental Dead” phishing scam, visit his website at Malware Tips. here.
