Brit Hume Says Dems Will Suffer If They Refuse To Vote On Bill To Avoid Government Shutdown

Veteran political analyst Britthume appeared on Fox News on Monday and said there is a possibility of political fallout for Democrats if they refuse to support a bill designed to prevent government shutdowns.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson is preparing for Tuesday’s vote on a law that would prevent partial government shutdowns for the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s term. Between exterior In a “special report with Brett Baier,” Hume warned Democrats who may be heavily on the issue and withheld the vote.

“The question then is whether Democrats actually don’t provide those votes, and then whether the government will shut down afterwards. And that’s not a complete shutdown,” Hume said. “We all know that, but it’s a partial shutdown and no one likes it. And the party being blamed is always suffering from it. And it seems Democrats think you know, the other parts of your government, everyone will blame them.”

Hume said the party, which is perceived as responsible for the closure, suffers from public opinion, and this example is no exception.

“It may be different this time, because it’s obviously clear that refusing to provide a small number of votes will cause a government shutdown, so I don’t know if they can get away with that this time, but I’ll see if they’ll try,” Hume said.

Hume said the House would need a Democrat vote for the bill to be passed.

“And I don’t think the problem here is this house. I think this bill will pass the House, because it keeps the government open. But they are the subject of filibusters in the Senate and don’t have a majority large enough to cover it, so they need a democratic vote. So they’re going to need some Democrats,” Hume said.

House Republican leaders provided funding to the government on Saturday and introduced the bill to prevent a partial shutdown scheduled for midnight on March 14th.

House Democrats could reject StopGap’s funding bill. They criticize Republican lawmakers for President Donald Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) to include provisions that limit clauses to reduce unnecessary spending. The StopGap government fundraising bill calls for support from at least eight Senate Democrats to bypass the Senate filibuster, particularly after Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul vowed to oppose the CR. Meanwhile, Democrat Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman has pledged not to vote for the government shutdown, thus providing at least one democratic vote for the Republican-approved plan.
