Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) — Pima County has been identified as having one of the highest traffic fatalities in the nation.
Biden Harris Administration announced $800 million will be provided to local agencies to reduce the rise in road deaths.
Pima County was awarded $1.52 million to develop an action plan. The county’s fatality rate is about 11 times the national average.
The deputy director of the Pima County Department of Transportation said their team has developed a plan and is focused on creating a culture of safety.
“We know that safety performance is declining across infrastructure and networks. .
Casertano said PDOT will work with the city and local law enforcement agencies to help develop safety plans.
“We expect it to be an 18-month process scope. We will get feedback,” said Paul Casertano.
