‘Respect The Competition’: Stephen A. Smith Says Left Got Too Comfortable ‘Vilifying’ And ‘Denigrating’ Republicans

Stephen A. Smith of ESPN told SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly on Monday that Democrats are too used to “defll” and “demonstrations” Republicans.

Since President Donald Trump’s election, Democrats have struggled to create a unified message, reaching a new record-low positive rating, according to a recent CNN/SSRS poll. On The Megyn Kelly Show, Smith and Kelly discussed a clip of New York Times columnist Ezra Klein.

Before citing data on news consumption between voters on both sides, Kelly called Klein’s remarks “deeply offensive” and urged Smith to compare Crane’s comments calling Republicans “deplorable.” (Related: CNN speaks to swing state voters to see how Democrats will get fares in future elections. “But what the left has become accustomed to what you do is slander you and slander you if you don’t agree with them. So the younger voters opposed them,” Smith said. “You’re a parent. I’m a parent. This is very simple. Talk to your kids. Talk to the young people. You teach them, call them disciples, or call them idiots, then say, “Do they listen to you often?

“But somehow the people on the left don’t get this. I told them on many occasions, I’ve said ‘listen’ for the last few months. [Trump] He won the election. ” Look at what he is trying to do. You try to win the medium term and speak against what you want to oppose, right? Other than that, that’s your only request,” Smith added.

According to a CNN/SSRS poll released on March 16, Democrats’ favor plunged to 29% among voters. This has been a 20 percentage point decline since January 2021. Support within the party was also a hit.

“Whatever you do, especially the resemblance to the rhetoric you spit out in the campaign, you’re dying underwater. People say, “It’s nonsense we don’t want to deal with. We’re not trying to get back to it,” Smith said.

Smith continues, saying, “As crazy as often as Trump can come across,” and with his rhetoric and stance, he was “thought to be closer to normal than the Democrats of the American people.”

“If you know that, you’ll go back and say, “We have to release and we have to put together our actions,” Smith said. “They didn’t. They haven’t. So if they continue this path, Republicans will win a midterm. They’ll get more seats.”

“But if you were the left, you had to stop being so emotional and disregarding competition,” Smith added. “If the rights are competitive, that’s right. We deal with them in honor of them. We respect the competition and come up with a game plan that is different from the nonsense we hear.”

While struggling to have a unified message, Democrats also were unable to find a unified messenger to fall behind for the midterm elections. According to a CNN/SSRS poll, more than 30% of respondents were unable to name Democratic leaders. For those who wrote by name, Democrat New York State Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 9% chose former vice president Kamala Harris, while 8% chose Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and 6% minority leader Haquem Jeffries.
