Cuts to grant program could affect hundreds of jobs in Yuma County

Yuma, Arizona (Kyma, Kecy) – Yuma County receives millions of people from federal grant funding. There is money to help support work and local programs, but uncertainty at the federal level makes county leaders prepare for potential cuts.

County manager Ian McGoggie says Yuma County has received $190 million in federal grant funds, covering the business through 2030.

Tony Reyes’ Board Member District 4 states, “It will impact Yuma County and impact the people we serve. It just means the loss of many programs that support a lot of work and the community in general.”

For now, funding remains stable, but county leaders are still closely monitoring the situation.

“I really don’t know what the impact will be until I actually feel the impact that doesn’t affect me until I actually cut my funds.”

McGaughey says he is taking a cautious approach as the county prepares its budget for 2025-2026.

“We are very conservative. If there is a federal impact, we need to be careful and smart.”

County officials say there is no timeline if federal changes occur or are actively maintained during or when or actively staying during that time.
