Middle school students Yuma, Welton and Parker visited Arizona Western College on Thursday to visit the Talent Search Program Career Festival.

Human resource search It’s a trio program. In other words, it is one of eight educational departmental programs aimed at supporting underprivileged students in their services and outreach. We also identify and support disadvantaged students from grades 6-12 who are likely to succeed in higher education.

In Yuma and La Paz, Talent Search currently serves 583 students in 10 schools. These are usually students who will become first-generation college students or come from low-income backgrounds.

“Every week we’re at school,” said Lisa Dresden of Talent Search Program Manager. “In school, we have after-school programs. We may be researching careers and studying colleges, but we do that in a fun way. So we bring most of the games, activities and more to them for after-school.”

Field Trip was another perk of the program, with Thursday’s Career Festival being one of them. Students were brought to AWC’s Yuma campus from 4th Avenue Junior High School, Gira Vista Junior High School, Welton Elementary School, Wallace Elementary School and Lupera Elementary School.

Dresden noted that students are specifically trying to make at least one field trip, which was actually the second field in this grade. On our last trip, the kids went on a tour of the Yuma Campus. With no additional tours needed, the focus on Thursday was mere career exploration.

“The intention is that they learn and enjoy. “We have different tables. We have different paintings to learn about art. We have Legos to learn about engineering, so that they create different figures. We have a potting station that they create small plants and bring home as examples of what they can do in agriculture.

“We also have an operational game that represents what we can do in the future in the medical field. And there is a modern language. This is a Spanish professor on campus and she plays games with students and learns about the various languages that she can pursue in the future.

And there were snow corn and popcorn to handle the day more.
