Moore’s legislation allowing the deportation of illegal immigrants with DUI convictions is approved by the House

New Deportation Bill Targets DUI Offenders

A recent law put forth by US Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) enables the deportation of undocumented immigrants found guilty of driving offenses. This legislation, approved by the House of Representatives, aims to address concerns around road safety.

“Today’s vote sends a strong message,” Moore commented. “If you’re in this country and you put lives at risk by violating our laws, particularly through driving under the influence, there will be repercussions.”

During the process, Moore highlighted that 160 Democrats opposed the measure aimed at protecting American families from impaired driving. This fact sparked further discussions on the political divide regarding road safety and immigration laws.

Moore’s bill, known as HR 875, also honors individuals like Jeremy, Angel Sheey, and Sergeant Brandon Mendoza, emphasizing the importance of community protection. It passed with a vote of 209-160.

He remarked on the common sense behind the bill, explaining that it should be straightforward for people to understand the necessity of deportation for those driving under the influence. Even amidst significant political polarization, he expressed hope that Democrats might align with Republicans to support such reasonable legislation.

However, Moore shared his doubts about substantial bipartisan agreement on this issue. Still, he acknowledged the House’s consideration of HR 875 as a positive step toward safeguarding communities from impaired driving.

Previous efforts to pass similar legislation faced challenges in the Senate last year, underscoring the ongoing complexity of the situation.
