Alabama Delegation Heads to SEUS-CP Business Forum
The Alabama Department of Commerce is set to take a delegation to the 2025 US Southeast Canada (SEUS-CP) Business Forum starting this Sunday in St. John, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Deputy Commerce Ed Castilla will lead the three-day event, which aims to explore trade and investment opportunities in three main areas: food and drink, advanced manufacturing, and energy.
This forum is an important gathering designed to enhance commercial and cultural connections between six southeastern U.S. states and six Canadian provinces.
This year’s sessions will include panel discussions led by experts, networking opportunities, and a comprehensive B2B matchmaking program. This will connect businesses, including procurement representatives from major Canadian companies like NB Power, JD Irving, and Organigram Global.
Castilla highlighted the significance of Alabama’s participation, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. He mentioned, “SEUS-CP provides our companies with a chance to reach valuable markets and forge strong international partnerships. Canada remains a crucial trading partner for Alabama, and this forum will allow our companies to demonstrate their innovation and capabilities on a global stage.”
Two small businesses from Alabama—Lunarlab Benefit LLC and SEPCO (Sealing Equipment Products Co. Inc.)—will engage in the matchmaking program facilitated by Market Access International.
- Lunarlab Benefit LLC – A Birmingham-based design and strategy studio focusing on digital product development and user experience.
- SEPCO (Sealing Equipment Products Co. Inc.) – Located in Alabaster, this company is known for its advanced fluid sealing solutions for various industrial applications.
These businesses will have the opportunity to meet directly with potential partners and buyers through the Forum’s Signature Business Development Track.
The Alabama Department of Commerce aims to support international growth for businesses in the state and position Alabama as a desirable location for global investments.
Strong Ties with Canada
Canada is Alabama’s leading trading partner and investor.
In 2024, Canada was Alabama’s largest export market, with exports totaling $4.3 billion—an increase of 7% from the previous year. Additionally, Alabama imported $3.8 billion worth of goods from Canada last year.
According to the Canadian Consulate General in Atlanta, over 260 Canadian firms operate in Alabama, employing around 9,500 individuals. This trend is on the rise; since 2015, Canadian companies have invested more than $1.7 billion in Alabama, resulting in about 3,000 new jobs.
