Flagstaff, Ariz. – Coconino County is enforcing stricter fire rules due to exceptionally hot and dry weather conditions.
Effective Wednesday, June 18th, all state trust lands located south of the Grand Canyon will transition to stage 2 fire restrictions.
The most significant change is the prohibition of campfires. Here’s a comprehensive list of restrictions issued by the Forestry and Fire Control Agency.
- Campfires, charcoal fires, and wood stoves are not permitted.
- Smoking is only allowed inside enclosed vehicles or buildings.
- No chainsaws may be used between 9 AM and 8 PM.
- Discharging firearms, air rifles, or guns is forbidden unless you are legally hunting.
- Fireworks and other incendiary devices are not allowed.
Restrictions for mechanical and industrial activities include:
- Operating internal combustion engines.
- Welding or using acetylene or other torches with open flames.
- Using explosives.
Areas north of the Grand Canyon remain under stage 1 restrictions. Stage 2 rules apply to Apache, Cochise, Gila, Graham, Greenlee, La Paz, Maricopa, Mohave, Navajo, Pinal, Pima, Santa Cruz, Yavapai, and Yuma counties as well.
