Sheriff’s Office in Cochise County alerts about rabies in gray foxes

Kochise County, Arizona – Community Alert

Kochise County officials are advising residents to be cautious after two grey foxes were spotted in the Ramsey Canyon Area.

The Kochise County Sheriff’s Office reported that one of the foxes appeared ill and was near a local business. Sadly, it passed away before wildlife experts arrived. The second fox displayed aggressive behavior towards people; it was captured, euthanized, and subsequently tested positive for a virus.

Authorities recommend avoiding contact with wild animals that seem unusual and ensuring pets are vaccinated and monitored, especially if they’re showing strange behavior.

Anyone observing abnormal animal activity, particularly if wild animals are seen during the day acting unusually, should report it to SEACOM at 520-803-3550 or dial 911.

Below are some rabies safety tips provided by the Kochise County Sheriff’s Office.
