Yuma, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – Amazon announced 37 new projects to achieve 100% renewable energy efficient operations.
While being a streaming and delivery platform, Amazon is playing a leading role in promoting renewable energy, making Arizona the perfect place to leave its solar footprint.
“Amazon is very committed to building sustainable companies, and when it comes to solar projects, Arizona is hard to beat,” said Zoe Richmond, Arizona spokesperson and Yuma native.
Richmond is from Yuma, but this detail wasn’t included in Amazon’s plans for Yuma County.
“Yuma County is one of 37 renewable energy projects the company has in place in the United States and around the world,” explained Richmond.
Several Yuma County citizens provided input on the project.
“If they bring in a solar farm or expand the solar farm that we already have, I hope they will take advantage of it with the help of local contractors. So we’re keeping some of that business local here in Yuma County,” said Leonard Manos, owner of 48Solar & Roofing.
“I think solar power is a good thing. I live in a single house and it doesn’t have electricity. I have 24 solar panels and the whole house runs on it,” says Yuma citizen Dave Durflinger. explains.
On why Amazon wants to leave a solar footprint in Yuma County.
“Big companies like Amazon have a responsibility to make sure the world is a better place for everyone,” Richmond said.
Once everything is in place, Amazon will complete the project by 2025, ahead of its scheduled 2030 target.
