Alabama Electric Cooperatives Support Garlan Gudger

The Alabama Political Action Committee, part of the Alabama Rural Cooperative Association, announced on Monday their endorsement of Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger in his leadership roles.

This endorsement came from the board of directors of PAC, which consists of leaders from Alabama’s Electric Cooperatives, all of whom are dedicated to uplifting rural communities and the state’s energy sector.

“Pro Tem Gudger consistently advocates for the Alabama Electric Cooperative and truly champions the interests of rural areas throughout our state,” stated Karl Rayborn, a local CEO. “We appreciate his leadership and are eager to collaborate with him as we strive for policies that shape Alabama’s future.”

During the 2025 legislative session, Gudger was instrumental in the passage of the Powering Growth Plan. This legislative initiative aims to boost the development of Alabama’s energy infrastructure and promote long-term economic advancement, according to PAC.

After the Powering Growth Plan was approved, Gudger remarked, “My primary goal during the development of these bills has been to foster and expand opportunities in rural parts of the state. I’ve made a point to include provisions that ensure a considerable portion of this investment remains in Alabama.”

The endorsement of Garlan Gudger by the Alabama PAC demonstrates a continued commitment to addressing the needs of rural areas, advocating for effective energy policies, and supporting leadership that enhances the economic well-being of communities throughout the state.

The Alabama Association of Rural Cooperatives represents 22 member-owned electric distribution cooperatives, delivering reliable and affordable power to over one million residents in Alabama. Together with the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Power South Energy Cooperative, and Southern Power, they aim to strengthen rural communities, promote healthy energy policies, and boost the national economy through advocacy, education, and leadership development.
