Yam is a wonderful boy who has gone through a difficult time in his life. The boy was rescued by Heart, a humane capture organization, after learning he had been living inside a Connex box for several months. He was kept in care for several months until his foster parents took him into a home environment and got to know him better. Yam is a very affectionate boy once he trusts you. Below is a note from his adoptive mother to ensure he goes to the best home where he will be given love, kindness, and mostly patience as he learns to trust new people. . There will be a meet and greet (possibly more than one) and a home check will need to be completed before his adoption can be finalized. Our goal here is to help him succeed so he can find his final home. They cannot go to homes with young children or to homes where young children frequently visit. Yam has a bite exemption due to an incident at the shelter where he became so scared that he bit a staff member. ï‚· Very affectionate ï‚· Loves to sleep next to humans ï‚· Gets along well with all five dogs (big and small) in his foster home ï‚· Loves to play ï‚· Loves toys to fetch and pull Brings own toys ï‚· Not food aggressive – can eat with the public respectfully ï‚· Food motivated ï‚· Knows to sit and comes immediately when called ï‚· Not destructive ï‚· Requires a safe and secure yard ï‚· Yams need a reliable canine companion and a home where they are not left alone for long periods of time ï‚· Yams bark when they want to play or while preparing food (We’re working on it, but usually he starts barking when another dog shows up) but has gotten much better – he is very happy to meet people he has met in the past Now, it looks like it has more to do with the markings than not being potty trained. I believe this is behavioral since there are 5 other dogs in the foster home plus another male who comes in twice a week. He has access to a doggy door at all times (except at night) and goes out alone frequently. Yam loves to be praised. ï‚· Originally we had some issues when we picked him up and he was growling. There was no biting, but I respected this and didn’t force him. At 3 months old, he doesn’t do that at all and comes to me for cuddles. ï‚· He is afraid of leashes and collars. We’re still working on that. ï‚· Sometimes he bites his ankle. He uses his mouth a lot when you’re walking or helping him put on socks and shoes, etc. It seems like he is still trying to figure out how to play with both humans and dogs. ï‚· Serious questions only please. Yam will require a long adaptation period in its new home. The more time you spend working with him, the sooner he will come back. He is a wonderful and loving boy, but all he needs is time, patience and understanding. He’s come a long way in terms of trusting people, so I hope he doesn’t need as much time in his new home.arizona small dog rescue

Meet Junior, a 9-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix who has been in the care of the Arizona Humane Society for 33 days. This sweet senior boy was confiscated from his previous owner by our field team in hopes of finding a better life. In 2021, Junior had his right eye removed due to an infection, but the surgery dramatically improved his quality of life. I also think it made him even cuter. Now in his golden years, Junior developed a heart murmur. Although it does not threaten his quality of life at this time, there is another unique characteristic of Junior that his future family should consider when deciding on his care. He is a really special boy and likes to take long, relaxing walks with the people he loves. He loves playing with toys and interacting with other humans. However, he must be the only dog in his forever home. Visit our South Mountain campus or learn more at azhumane.org/adopt.AHS
