‘Agree To Disagree’: ABC Host Debates Harris’ Racial Identity With Swing-State Voter

Wisconsin voter Melody Davie debated Vice President Kamala Harris' racial identity with ABC host Martha Raddatz on Sunday after Davie asked her if she was black.

During a segment on ABC's “This Week,” Raddatz interviewed voters in key battleground states about their choices for the upcoming election. While discussing the recent rightward shift of black voters, Davie revealed that she was “leaning” toward voting for former President Donald Trump and questioned whether Harris lied about “her roots.”

“Why is that?” Raddatz asked after Davie said he was inclined to vote for Trump.

“Many of the things Kamala has said are similar to things Trump has said, such as that there is no tax on tips, something he has said repeatedly before. She's been caught up in a lot of lies,” Davie said.

When Raddatz pressed Wisconsin voters on what lies they thought Harris had told them, Davie replied, “I think lying about her origins was one of them.” (RELATED: CNN analyst says Kamala Harris popular in 'Black street communities')

“Do you think she lied about her ancestry?” Raddatz asked.

“Yeah, I think she's just Indian. I don't think she's black,” Davie said.

Raddatz fired back at Davie, saying Harris has “always identified as black” and also noted that she is of Indian descent.

“Well, I think that's a point on which we can definitely disagree,” Davie said.

Last week, Trump blasted Harris for her lack of “imagination” in a Truth Social post after she promoted a policy of not taxing tips, a campaign promise Trump made to hospitality workers in early June.

Trump also addressed Harris' race during a panel interview with the National Association of Black Journalists in late July, saying he only recently became aware of her black heritage because Harris had emphasized her Indian background throughout her career.

“So I've known her indirectly for a long time, but not much directly. She's always been Indian and just promoted that. I didn't know she was black until a few years ago, when she happened to be black, and now she wants to be known as black. So I don't know if she's Indian or black,” Trump questioned.
