Alabama city selected to hold the 2027 Congressional Medal of Honor Society Convention

Birmingham is set to officially host the 2027 Parliamentary Medal Honorary Society Conference from September 13 to 18, 2027. This announcement came through a collaboration with the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, the City of Birmingham, and the 2027 Honorary Conference Birmingham Host Committee.

One recipient expressed that they’re honored to bring the Congressional Honor Society Conference to a city steeped in American history and patriotism. Birmingham is recognized as the location of the first Veterans Day parade, exemplifying a national commitment to remembering and honoring those we serve. The intention during this time is to share stories and actively engage with students, veterans, leaders, and families in the community.

This convention will gather living Medal of Honor recipients and their families for a week dedicated to reflection, awareness, and community involvement. It serves as a chance to celebrate the most decorated military heroes while also showcasing Birmingham’s significant historical and civic contributions.

Birmingham boasts a distinctive history of resilience and community transformation, making it the perfect place to honor those who have selflessly served. With over 400,000 veterans in Alabama, the focus remains on commemorations and celebrating the heroes that the community holds dear.

The Birmingham tradition of honoring veterans stretches back to 1954 and includes hosting the first National Veterans Day parade. This commemorative spirit continues through numerous memorial events dedicated to military service.

Mayor Randall Woodfin remarked that Birmingham is home to significant memorials like the National Veterans Shrine, Alabama’s Fallen Warriors Memorial, and Alabama Veterans Memorial Park, which reflect deep respect for those who served. Gathering to honor courage, sacrifice, and integrity is a community privilege.

About 40 of the 61 living Medal of Honor recipients are anticipated to attend the 2027 event, which will feature public ceremonies, educational programs, and private gatherings.

This event will place Birmingham among other cities that have recently hosted conventions, like San Antonio, New Orleans, and Knoxville.
