Support Grows for Let Marquez in Alabama’s Congressional Race
Alabama House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter, along with 31 members of the House Republican Caucus, has thrown their support behind state Rep. Lett Marquez for Alabama’s Open First Congressional District in 2026. This backing adds to a wave of early local endorsements for Marquez, following a similar show of support from U.S. Senator Katie Britt of Montgomery.
“I am thrilled to have the backing of so many individuals I’ve collaborated with in Congress,” Marquez (R-Enterprise) remarked. He mentioned that while President Trump was focusing on tax relief at the national level, Marquez is pursuing significant tax reductions within Alabama, which aim to lower state food taxes, eliminate key national taxes that affect younger families, and offer relief for seniors.
Speaker Ledbetter praised Marquez for his service in the Alabama legislature, stating that Republicans in Enterprise have proven their commitment to conservative values and prioritize the needs of the state. “He has contributed to over $1.5 billion in tax cuts and has been a strong advocate for workforce development and public safety by addressing illegal immigration,” Ledbetter noted. “His record speaks volumes, and while I dislike losing him from the legislature, he fits the needs of Alabama’s First Congressional District perfectly.”

Marquez, a lifelong Republican from Baldwin County, currently represents District 91 and is working to form a coalition for his campaign. He faces competition from Jerry Carl, who is looking to reclaim his previous seat after losing it in 2024. The Congressional seats will be available in the 2026 election cycle, as Moore has decided to run for a statewide position in the US Senate.
The Alabama Republican primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
