Agreement Between Israel and Hamas Draws Praise from Alabama Republicans
The Republican Congressional delegation from Alabama is expressing support for the recent agreement reached between Israel and Hamas aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza.
The violence escalated after Hamas carried out a devastating attack on October 7, 2023, resulting in over 1,200 casualties in Israel. In response, Israel initiated military operations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
President Trump announced on Truth Social that “I’m very proud to share that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a peace plan.” He elaborated that this entails the immediate release of hostages and a withdrawal of Israeli forces to agreed-upon front lines. He described this step as essential for achieving a lasting peace, thanking Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey for their mediation efforts. “Blessed are those who make peace!” he added.
Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Sachs.), chair of the House Armed Services Committee, celebrated the agreement in a Newsmax appearance. He emphasized, “Let’s remember: this is a first step we all agreed upon, and it’s a larger step than anyone besides President Trump could have made.” He expressed optimism but acknowledged that further discussions are needed to complete the entire plan.
Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) referred to the agreement as an “incredible first step.”
In a tweet, she expressed gratitude for the return of hostages, attributing the success to President Trump’s efforts and calling him a “true president of peace.”
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) went further, suggesting that President Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in the peace agreement.
Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) remarked, “This is great news. I pray for peace after two years of war. Thanks to President Trump for prioritizing the end of global conflicts.”
Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) labeled the agreement as “historic,” acknowledging President Trump’s relentless work toward lasting peace.
