ALGOP reveals eligibility for special election in House District 38

Alabama Republicans Announce Special Election Qualification

On Sunday, Alabama Republicans shared that qualifying candidates for a special election in the Alabama House District is now open. This follows Governor Kay Ivey’s declaration on Friday, which established dates for the special election concerning House District 38.

“Debbie Wood’s representative has been a devoted leader for the people of House District 38, and her dedication to Alabama deserves recognition,” Ivy stated. “I believe that as she moves into this new phase, the district will choose leaders who will retain the same passion and integrity. I’m urging all voters to engage in this significant special election.”

Candidate qualifying opens at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Republican candidates can qualify online at www.algop.org or directly at the Alabama GOP headquarters located at 3505 Lorna Road, Hoover, 35216.

The position became vacant after it was revealed that the previous representative, Debbie Wood, would be relocating from East Alabama due to her husband Bobby’s new job in Pensacola, Florida.

“District 38 has a rich history of electing Republican leaders who embody the values and priorities of East Alabama. Representative Debbie Wood has served the people of Chambers and Lee County with dignity, and we are thankful for her years of service in the Alabama Legislature,” said Waal.

Waal also expressed gratitude for Wood’s contributions regarding ALGOP initiatives, referencing significant work on post-election audits and the Harold Sachs-Anne Roberts Act. This legislation aims to allow patients to reconnect with their loved ones during critical times, which I think is quite important.

Waal emphasized that Alabama Republicans are committed to ensuring a conservative voice continues to advocate for the residents of District 38 in Montgomery. “We invite all qualified Republicans eager to serve their communities and uphold the principles of limited governance, economic opportunity, and individual freedom,” he concluded.

Important dates for the special election include:

  • Special Primary Election: Tuesday, October 21, 2025
  • Special Primary Runoff (if necessary): Tuesday, November 18, 2025
  • Special General Election: Tuesday, February 3, 2026
