Three weeks ago, Mojave County juvenile probation officers helped rescue a teenage girl from Kingman’s Utah residence after she was allegedly found in the basement of a convicted sex offender. Now she’s back in Mojave County and she could face charges of her own for leaving the state.
It was a case in which Mojave County probation officers worked with Utah law enforcement to influence the arrest of Utah resident Jordan Sorensen, 26, of West Valley City. Sorensen is believed to have driven over 500 miles from her home to Kingman City after he met the 14-year-old victim through a social media app and learned her address. Utah officials believe Sorensen cut off her probation ankle monitor against her victim’s wishes and coerced her into taking her to Utah with him.
Authorities eventually found the victim in the basement of Sorensen’s West Valley City home on January 31. Utah law enforcement said Sorensen sexually assaulted the victim several times over the course of several days before rescuing him. Sorensen and his victim were taken into custody at the time, with the victim awaiting extradition to Mojave County on charges related to possibly missing his current probation period.
According to Mojave County officials, the victim was turned over to Mojave County earlier this month and is currently being held at the Mojave County juvenile detention facility awaiting legal proceedings.
Sorensen was previously convicted of aggravated sexual extortion and attempted sexual exploitation of a minor in a 2020 case in Wyoming. According to the Utah Attorney General’s Office, Sorensen knew the victim was a minor and a Mojave County probation officer.
According to the probable cause statement for the incident, the victim was unaware that Sorensen was going to see Kingman or take him to his home in Utah. He forced her to travel with her, suggesting that “bad things will happen” if she doesn’t.
Utah officials say Sorensen used scissors to cut off the victim’s GPS-tracking ankle monitor against her will.
A Mojave County probation officer was alerted to the ankle monitor’s removal and is actively working with investigators to find out where she went. We obtained video surveillance footage from businesses along Sorensen’s route and identified the victim at Sorensen’s company. The footage allowed investigators to identify Sorensen and find his address in West Valley City.
An investigation led to agents from the Utah Department of Corrections’ Adult Probation and Parole Division searching Sorensen’s home and discovering the victim in the basement.
As of this week, Sorensen remains in custody at the Salt Lake County Jail without bond. The charges against him include sex offender probation violation, aggravated child sexual extortion, and aggravated kidnapping.
