Alternator maker reveals plans for 200 new jobs and $52.4 million expansion in Henderson County

Nidec Power has announced a $52.4 million investment to expand its manufacturing operations in Lexington, Tennessee, as reported on October 9, 2025.

An alternator manufacturing company, Nidec Power plans to enhance its facility in Henderson County, thereby creating 200 additional jobs.

Once this expansion is finalized, the company will have over 600 employees in Henderson County, making it the second-largest employer in the region, following the local school district.

Nidec designs and produces “advanced alternators” used for power generation in hospitals, data centers, and defense applications. The expansion is aimed at increasing their capacity to meet rising power demands both domestically and internationally.

This company is part of Nidec Motor Corporation, a global entity valued at $16 billion and based in Kyoto, Japan, with operations in more than 40 countries. Nidec Power itself is headquartered in Minnesota and has over 2,000 employees across North America.

“Our long history in Tennessee shows that our success is deeply tied to the quality and dedication of the team in Lexington,” stated Nidec Power President David Strosak in a press release. “We are excited to invest in a community that has supported us so much.”

Lexington, with around 8,000 residents, serves as Henderson County’s seat. Manufacturing stands as the largest industry locally, providing jobs for 1,670 people across 51 establishments, according to state data.

“What occurs in rural Tennessee is significant for all Tennesseans, and I’m pleased to announce new job opportunities for families in Henderson County,” expressed Gov. Bill Lee in the release. “Nidec’s investment represents a crucial development for this community, and we value their commitment to fostering better opportunities for our residents.”

Nidec is currently the third-largest employer in Henderson County, especially notable since Adient, a previous major employer that manufactured car seats, recently closed its facilities in nearby areas, resulting in over 400 job losses.

At the moment, Nidec employs roughly 400 people in Lexington. Back in 2018, the company received a $1.8 million economic development grant linked to a $18.7 million expansion aimed at creating 300 jobs at its Henderson County site.

However, the specifics of any state incentives for the recent announced expansion remain unclear.
