‘An Unwavering Warrior’: Trump Touts Economy, Trade, Border Security Among Accomplishments In Pitch To Iowa Voters

Former President Donald Trump made his case for the Republican nomination Friday night at the Republican Lincoln Dinner in Iowa.

The former president outlined his accomplishments in the White House so far, claiming he had a much better track record than his opponents. President Trump touted his own track record on trade, economic affairs and border security to the audience. (Related: Republicans Condemn New Charges in Trump Classified Documents Lawsuit)

“I built the strongest border in America’s history and built a nearly 500-mile border wall,” Trump said.

President Trump claimed he was ready to build more border walls, but the Biden administration refused to continue construction. It was the first indication that President Joe Biden really wanted “open borders,” he argued.

“Many of these people have come out of prisons and mental hospitals,” he said, promising to turn things around “very quickly.”

He also touted the economic achievements his administration claimed to have achieved.

“Under my leadership, we have built the largest economy in the history of the world,” he said, adding that he had done it “twice.”

The former president also emphasized his trade policy. He said he gave farmers $28 billion from tariffs he received from China. He emphasized the termination of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and its replacement with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). He also said he had “made China buy” billions of dollars worth of “American agricultural products.”

“I am a staunch warrior for Iowa Ethanol and will continue to be an advocate for your company, which is so important to your economy. I think it’s going to be devastating for us,” Trump said.

Trump formally launched his 2024 presidential campaign in Mar-a-Lago in November and has been the frontrunner in the polls ever since.
