The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office has solved a 25-year-old cold case thanks to advanced DNA technology. In 1999, unidentified human remains were discovered near the Bumble Bee Road exit of Interstate 17 north of Black Canyon City. The body, believed to be that of a man at the time, was sent to the county medical examiner's office for fingerprints. However, at the time he searched DPS and his FBI records and found no match. In 2018, YCSO Cold Case Investigations asked the FBI to conduct another fingerprint search, and this time they found a match…to a woman. Cold case investigators contacted her family, who agreed to submit her DNA for comparison. Eventually, an order was obtained to exhume the remains, and DNA comparisons were analyzed to ensure positive identification. The body was that of Judy Glascock of Ventura, California. Investigators said it was difficult to determine her age, but she was probably in her late 30s. The cause of death is still unknown, but an autopsy in 1999 found no evidence of homicide or violence.
