On Wednesday, multiple witnesses saw a man run over and deface campaign signs with a machete.
YUMA, Ariz. — Yuma authorities say a man seen in a photo destroying President Donald Trump’s campaign sign with a machete has been found and has issued a criminal complaint.
Yuma Sheriff’s Office officials said multiple witnesses saw a man hit and run and deface a campaign sign with a machete Wednesday near 40th Street and Foothills Boulevard. Deputies attempted to search for the man, but were unable to find anyone matching his description or vehicle at the time.
“According to Arizona Revised Statute 16-1019.A, it is a second-degree misdemeanor to knowingly and unauthorizedly remove, alter, deface, or obscure a political sign of a candidate for public office,” Yuma County officials said in a statement. ” he said. “Additional charges of trespass, theft and/or criminal damage may also apply in certain circumstances.”
Authorities thanked the community for their cooperation in the investigation.
