FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Arizona residents around Flagstaff can expect wintry cold and snow as a strong cold front moves through the region on Election Night, bringing with it dropping temperatures and light snow. The National Weather Service in Flagstaff has issued a winter weather warning, warning residents to prepare for icy conditions through Thursday as snow accumulates, especially in the highlands of Apache County.

Snow could start falling late Tuesday night and continue in waves into Thursday, with a 20 percent chance of snow showers across the region, the National Weather Service said. Snowfall is expected to reach the valley floor, making travel on mountain roads, including mountain passes like U.S. Highway 180, potentially dangerous. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution, reduce speed and be prepared for slippery or snowy roads.

High temperatures in Flagstaff on Wednesday will be near 37 degrees, with strong winds out of the northeast reaching 18 mph. At night, the temperature drops to around 24 degrees. Scattered snow showers are likely to continue but may intensify in the evening, so it’s important for voters and residents alike to dress warmly and pay attention to changing road conditions.

Temperatures will remain below average on Thursday, with a high of 38 degrees, and a chance of snow continuing into the morning. Colder conditions are expected with northerly winds gusting 8 to 14 mph, up to 34 mph. Friday will be sunny and somewhat relieved once the cold front moves out, but temperatures will only reach around 49 degrees.
