SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Yuma County School Superintendent's Office was able to surprisingly honor Mrs. Miriam Hurtado of Arizona Desert Elementary School as Yuma County Teacher of the Month for January.
This was done through the Good Things in Education Program, and Hurtado received the award on Thursday.
Gadsden Elementary School District (GESD) #32 says the Yuma County Teacher of the Month is a prestigious honor that recognizes educators who have distinguished themselves through their dedication, passion, and impact on the lives of their students.
“We just really want to support the teachers and students who are doing good things in the community,” said Eliana Osborn, Yuma County program specialist for the Arizona Department of Education.
“Thanks to dedicated educators like Mrs. Hurtado, our school recently earned an A grade. Mrs. Hurtado is committed to improving student achievement and is committed to meeting the needs of the whole child. It definitely supports the mission of the school,” said Ms. Lina Galvan, principal of Arizona Desert Elementary School. “Mrs. Hurtado has served in a variety of positions during her 21 years with this district, including 5th grade teacher, 21st Century Community Learning Center Coordinator, Mentor, and is currently a Reading Interventionist.”
GESD #32 said the Good Things in Education program is designed to celebrate the people you meet and the connections you make throughout your educational career.
The program will focus on the critical role teachers play in shaping the future through their dedication to fostering a culture of teacher appreciation and nurturing the minds of young students.
GESD #32 celebrates Hurtado's dedication and support to the community.
Congratulations to Miriam Hurtado!
