Arizona early ballot returns show lead for GOP in Maricopa County

More than 600,000 voters in the Phoenix area have already cast their votes in the 2024 general election, according to early voting return data.

The returned ballots represent about one-third of the total votes that election officials have mailed to Maricopa County voters so far. Republicans, who make up the largest group of registered voters in the county, currently lead by about 80,000 returned votes.

As of October 23, when comparing the number of early votes requested by voters of each party, Republicans have a higher return rate than Democrats. Republicans requested about 730,000 mail-in ballots, while Democrats requested 645,000 mail-in ballots. Independent voters and voters registered with other political parties have requested approximately 655,000 votes, but their returns have been delayed.

The Arizona Republic receives data from the previous day every weekday from the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office. Check back daily for updates on early voting return trends.

According to poll results so far, more people have voted in this election than in 2022, reflecting increased voter interest in the presidential election cycle. But election officials said Tuesday that while revenue has increased in recent days, it lags behind 2020.

The 2020 election was affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Record early voting took place not only in Arizona but across the country.
