YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – The Arizona Supreme Court announced that Chief Justice Robert Brutinell and Associate Chief Justice Ann Scott Timmer arrived in Yuma County on Tuesday.
According to a press release, this is part of an ongoing Strategic Issues Tour across Arizona that will provide the latest information on Brutinel's Strategic Issue, “Justice for the Future,” to superior courts in “all 15 Arizona counties.” It is intended to.
With Chief Justice Robert Brutinell retiring on July 1st and being immediately replaced by Deputy Chief Justice Ann Scott Timmer, they were thinking of doing a hell of a farewell tour across Arizona's counties.
“In a way, I wanted to say goodbye and I asked Judge Timmer if he wanted to do the same thing, and he said he would be happy to do it, so we ended up going on this tour, and we wanted to do this again.” I think we've decided to call it, 'You're goodbye, I'm hello tour,''' Arizona Chief Justice Robert Brutinel said.
Today they stopped in Yuma, where Arizona's Deputy Chief Judge Timmer has some familiarity with the particular case here.
“Before coming to the Supreme Court, I served on the Court of Appeals for 12 years as the first division of the Court of Appeals for Yuma, so I saw far more Yuma cases on the Court of Appeals than I did on the Supreme Court. And you saw it all,” said Arizona Deputy Chief Justice Timmer.
Arizona Deputy Secretary Timmer explains how he is concerned about public distrust of federal and state institutions.
She said that according to statistics and a survey from the National Senate for State Courts, public trust in these two men is declining.
“My focus over the next few years is how to strengthen trust, and part of that is trying to get people interested in educating people about the courts.” said the Arizona Deputy Chief Justice. Timmer.
Deputy Chief Justice Timmer will be the fourth woman in Arizona history to serve as Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court.
The press release also notes that Timmer will preview the strategic agenda, which is scheduled to begin in July 2024.
