Arizona Supreme Court keeps Kari Lake election challenge alive | State

(Center Square) – The Arizona Superior Court has dismissed most of the complaints filed by governor candidate Kari Lake, but has remanded one challenge to the lower court for consideration.

On Wednesday night, a judge allowed a lower court to review the veteran TV anchor’s challenge to the Maricopa County Records Department’s handling of the signature verification denial.

Contrary to Lake’s consistent claims, Governor Katie Hobbs was elected the winner of the November 8, 2022, Arizona gubernatorial election with more than 17,000 votes. There was not enough margin to trigger an automatic recount.

Maricopa County election officials have vehemently defended the election as valid.

Lake’s seven claims allege that more than 35,000 votes were illegally counted.

The granted challenge was that during the 2022 election, a lower court ruled Lake’s claims as a “challenge to existing signature verification policies, when Lake argued that in fact Maricopa did not follow these policies. I am clearly asking if I misunderstood you.

The lower court said Lake’s challenge to verification was invalid because it was made after the election, but the Supreme Court said she could not have challenged it until after the election.

“We are thrilled that the Supreme Court has agreed to give our signature verification evidence the proper forum for the evaluation it deserves,” Lake said in a statement Thursday. When we do, there is little doubt that this election was compromised and that the outcome did not meet the standards of certainty outlined in Arizona law.”
