Arrest made in Maricopa County connected to missing Oklahoma girl

PHOENIX — One of two custodians wanted in connection with the disappearance of a 4-year-old Oklahoma girl was arrested Thursday night in Maricopa County, a Phoenix police spokesman confirmed. Did.

Authorities began searching for 4-year-old Athena Brownfield after a postal worker found her 5-year-old sister near her home in Cyril, Oklahoma.

Alicia Adams, one of Brownfield’s two caretakers, was arrested on two charges of child abuse. Her husband, Ivon, was recently arrested in Maricopa County.

An Oklahoma warrant against Ivon Adams was issued for first-degree murder and child neglect charges, court records show.

Phoenix police arrested Adams on a felony warrant near 67th Street and Camelback Road around 5 p.m. Thursday. Adams was then imprisoned in the Maricopa County Jail.

As of Friday morning, Adams is in custody ahead of a county court appearance.

Adams waived his right to hold a hearing in Arizona to challenge his extradition to Oklahoma.

“I need to go out there and fight this,” Adams said during a court appearance on Friday.

Oklahoma officials are given the next 30 days to return Adams to the state.

A search for Alicia and Ivon Adams began Tuesday afternoon when Brownfield was found missing. Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation Announced.

An investigation is currently underway to find the missing girl.

Authorities believe that Athena was wearing a hoodie with a butterfly design when she disappeared.

The agency said it was cooperating with other law enforcement agencies and volunteers in the search, which included helicopters, boats, all-terrain vehicles, specially trained ground teams, and a review of surveillance video around Cyril.

The city of Cyril also suspends garbage disposal as investigators search for clues.
