Two men are hospitalized after a midnight shootout in Yavapai County.
According to a Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office news release, law enforcement “joined forces” to respond to reports of a shootout near Cook’s Trail in Ash Fork around midnight Thursday. More than 15 officers arrived, including the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Deputy, Coconino County Sheriff’s Deputy, and Department of Public Safety officers.
The 119 caller said two people were shot and the shooter refused to drop his weapon. A statement from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said two men had life-threatening injuries and required urgent medical assistance when officers arrived.
“For the safety of all involved, the YCSO SWAT has also been convened,” the YCSO statement said. “However, agents have discovered that two victims appear to have life-threatening gunshot wounds and require immediate medical attention.”
Police said one of the victims had multiple injuries to his leg and the other had a head injury.

One unharmed man surrendered to police without incident, officials said. A search of the scene found multiple weapons and cartridge cases, blood stains on a nearby house, but no other victims.
An investigation is ongoing, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
