US Senator Tommy Tuberville has selected Doug Esposito, a resident of Auburn and a US Navy Captain, to be the Veteran of the Month. Doug, a former pilot, has dedicated 30 years to military service, focusing on helping fellow veterans access educational resources and essential services.
Tuberville, a Republican from Auburn, regards Esposito as a strong representation of commitment.
“In Alabama, we take pride in honoring and supporting the heroes who’ve served our military, but we need individuals who can commit to this mission every day of the year,” he remarked.
He highlighted Esposito’s distinguished career in the Navy. “Pack, being the son of a WWII and Korean War veteran, followed in his father’s footsteps by enlisting in 1986. Over his active duty, Puck spent three decades as a naval aviator, with experiences ranging from working with the Canadian Air Force to multiple deployments. He served in various theaters across nine long missions,” Tuberville added.
Esposito’s dedication to veteran welfare hasn’t gone unnoticed by lawmakers.
“His work at the Vets Resource Center has significantly benefited Auburn students as well as military students. The Center primarily provides academic resources, but Puck has also tackled critical issues like veteran suicide and ensures veterans have access to meals and educational support,” Tuberville noted.
Currently, Esposito supports over 2,000 student veterans.
“Under Pack’s leadership over the last decade, the Vets Resource Center at Auburn has grown from serving 600 to 2,100 students,” Tuberville stated. “They also organize events like Project Iron Ruck to recognize and honor veterans at various university athletic events.”
“We are honored to have Pack as part of our community and are thankful for all that he does for our veterans.”
