Yuma — The community is invited to Arizona Western College to participate in book discussion events with authors.
Cutright will discuss her young adult book, Native Women Changing Their Worlds, which explores the lives of 12 Native American and First Nations activists and changemakers. Each chapter focuses on a variety of women’s contributions to making the world a better place while introducing themes of perseverance, determination, and education. Without hesitation, she makes frequent references to the epidemic of indigenous women who have been murdered or disappeared.
A Lakota and member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, Cutright makes her writing debut with this book, which explores the history of Indigenous women and the obstacles they have overcome to become strong community leaders. attract young people to The book features Debra Harland (Laguna), the first Native American woman who served as U.S. Secretary of the Interior to the late Mary Gordaros (Cherokee), an elite aeronautical engineer at Lockheed.
The collection of biographies are evocative texts and are reviewed as valuable contributions to the history of indigenous peoples. The book has been named one of his one of the best books in children’s literature by Native Americans for 2021.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on Wednesday, March 22 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm at the Schöning Conference Center in the 3C Building, 2020 S. Ave. 8E, AWC Yuma Campus. There will also be opportunities for the community to participate via Zoom.

The author’s presentation will be followed by a Q&A session and book signing. You can purchase books at the event. Additionally, the Yuma County Library and his AWC/NAU-Yuma Academic Library offer print and electronic copies to borrow.
