The United States was much more directly involved in supporting Ukrainian forces towards Russia than previously understood, a New York Times investigation revealed Monday.
Ukrainian American support was a tool of the power of an Eastern European state that injured or killed more than 700,000 Russian soldiers during the war. According to To NYT. The methods the US used to support Ukraine included providing target information while officially observing target information, sending US advisors near the frontline, and sweeping out surveillance for the use of missile systems granted by authorities.
An official from the European Intelligence Agency Office was surprised at how deep the US involvement was, informing the NYT that American officials had become “part of the kill chain.” (Related: President Trump tells NBC News that he is “very angry” and “angry” with Vladimir Putin)
Ukrainian officials met in Weesbaden in the spring of 2022, the headquarters of the US European Command, to discuss the extent and strategy of the US military and the US supporting Ukrainians.

During the meeting, the US European Command reconciliated with Ukrainian officials who reportedly reportedly would distribute the target location as “points of interest” to Ukrainians, which they believed the language was “provocative” and therefore did not officially call it “target.”
“If you were asked, ‘Did you give the target to the Ukrainians?” a US official told NYT. Most cannon strikes took place on the M777 Howitzer system, partially provided by the US
Due to diplomatic risks, the Biden administration wanted to share Inter in the most plausible and negative way possible, completely restricting the sharing of targets with Russian military figures on Russian soils, a senior US official told NYT. Shared information must adhere to Intel Shared NATO guidelines to prevent Russia’s rage against other countries in the Alliance.
“If the Russians knew that other countries helped us assassinate our chairman, imagine what that would happen to us,” an official told NYT. “Yeah, we went to war.”
According to the NYT, European headquarters were also monitoring the use of Himah missile systems in Ukraine. Himah regularly took strikes, resulting in hundreds of Russian deaths each week.
According to the NYT, advisors regularly visited the frontlines of the war. Their official names only changed to “advisors” after the change in leadership in Ukraine, but followed by a triple increase in advisors.
Despite deep cooperation, there is often tension between the US and Ukraine, and Kiev has accused Americans of being overwhelming, but questioned why Ukrainians didn’t listen to their advice.
