President Joe Biden on Thursday gave the U.S. military the green light to send more than 3,000 reservists to bolster its response to the war in Ukraine.
Biden Licensed The Secretary of Defense and Homeland Security will activate “personal members not assigned to any force and force organized as a force in the Select Reserve or members of the Personal Ready Reserve Mobilization Category.”
A unit group “must not exceed 3,000 total members at any one time, of which no more than 450 can be members of the Individual Ready Reserve,” the statement added. It remains unclear whether Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin intends to activate the reserve force.
“These are not additional forces. These are forces that augment what we already have there. Even so, the work may now be performed by a reserve component unit under these authorities,” said Lt. Gen. Douglas A. .Sims II Said in a statement.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Wednesday underscored U.S. involvement in helping Ukraine’s war against Russia, saying the world should “show appreciation” for the billions Washington has provided. . “The United States is stepping up to provide a vast array of capabilities to ensure that the brave Ukrainian soldiers have ammunition, air defenses, infantry fighting vehicles, mine clearing equipment, and anything else they can do effectively. Defend against Russian onslaught and take back territory,” Sullivan said. “I think the American people deserve a certain amount of gratitude from us, from the United States, from our government, for their willingness to go further, and from the rest of the world as well.”
Mr. Biden met with NATO leaders in Lithuania on Thursday and promised that the United States would help Ukraine as long as it was needed. He said Ukraine was not yet ready to join NATO because it was at war with Russia.
“I think we have to show a reasonable path for Ukraine to become a member of NATO,” Biden told CNN.
The president also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin “has no chance” of winning the war in Ukraine.
