U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra will travel to Birmingham on Tuesday to speak with health care workers and families affected by the Alabama Supreme Court's recent IVF decision.

State lawmakers are expected to take up the issue as a policy issue this week, and leaders in both chambers of the Alabama General Assembly have said they will focus on clarifying the law when they meet in the 2024 legislative session.
“The House and Senate leadership is committed to protecting IVF in Alabama,” said Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter. Said last week.
Former President Donald Trump also expressed concern about the potential impact of the ruling and called on Alabama lawmakers to ensure its availability and security.
“Today, I call on the Alabama Legislature to act quickly to find immediate solutions to maintain the availability of IVF in Alabama. Republicans have always been on the side of the miracle of life, and We need to stand by mothers, fathers and beautiful babies,” Trump said on Truth Social on Friday.
