President Joe Biden was also trying to protect his own memory when he confused two foreign presidents and forgot the names of parishes during Thursday's press conference.
The late-night press conference was called by the White House and was originally scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m., but was delayed by about 10 minutes. Biden spoke to reporters about the recent ruling in the classified documents case led by Special Counsel Robert Hur. Ho declined to make further accusations against the president, but Ho's report called Biden “An elderly man with poor memory,” he said during an interview.
Biden opened the news conference with comments about his memory, specifically the death of his eldest son. Although Biden said he was keeping a rosary in memory of his son Beau, Biden appeared to forget the parish the rosary came from, resulting in his continued silence. “Additionally, I am aware that some of the language in the report regarding my recollection of events has been noted. There is also a statement that I do not remember when my son died. How on earth could he bring that up? Can I? Frankly, when I was asked that question, I thought to myself, “That's none of their business.'' Let me tell you something. Some people have commented. I have worn the rosary that Our Lady gave me every day since the day he died,” Biden said before pausing.
“Every Remembrance Day we hold a service in his memory, attended by friends, family and those who loved him. No one needs to be reminded of what happened when he passed away. ”
Biden then spoke about the Israel-Hamas war, which is under pressure from some Democrats to call for a ceasefire. However, recalling a discussion with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, he incorrectly referred to him as “the president of Mexico.”
“You know, I think President Sisi of Mexico initially didn't want to open the gates to allow humanitarian supplies to come in. I talked to him. I told him to open the gates. I talked BiBi into opening the gates on the Israeli side. I have been working hard to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza. Many innocent people are starving. Too many innocent people are suffering and dying. It has to stop,” Biden said.
Since the document's release, many have begun to question the mental competency of Biden, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for the 2024 election.
