President Joe Biden is reportedly preparing to limit offshore oil and gas drilling in his final days in office, according to Bloomberg News, in a move that will appease the environmentalist lobby and encourage U.S. It’s a move that could thwart President-elect Donald Trump’s plans to free up the energy sector.
Biden’s upcoming order will reportedly permanently ban new lease sales for oil and gas drilling in certain areas outside the continental shelf. While many of the Biden administration’s energy policies will be relatively easy to reverse, the offshore drilling order reportedly forthcoming will be permanent and “difficult to reverse.” That’s because the act is made possible by a law that allows the president to protect federal waters from drilling without any clear rationale. They can revoke their previous designations, according to Bloomberg News. Still, it is possible that Mr. Trump will try to reverse Mr. Biden’s order, but it is unclear whether he will be successful.
