O’Reilly Comments on Senate’s Passage of Trump’s Legislation
Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly remarked on Tuesday that, while the Senate managed a narrow vote to pass President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Building,” significant challenges lie ahead.
The Senate approved the bill with a close 51-50 vote, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote. On his show “No Spin News,” O’Reilly highlighted the immense pressure faced by members of Congress.
“The House version differs from the Senate’s, but I’m hopeful that they’ll get it through. They’ll need 218 votes, which might be a challenge. Some legislators may hesitate to support the bill, especially if they’re looking at future elections with a GOP ticket,” O’Reilly noted. “Just keep that in mind; the pressure is immense.”
He also mentioned the three Republican senators who opposed the legislation.
“The Senate passed a significant bill, but it was a tight call, 50-50. In case of a tie, the Vice President stepped in, and JD Vance voted in favor. We had three Republicans against it: Collins from Maine, Paul from Kentucky, and Tillis from North Carolina. They simply didn’t support it,” he explained.
Senator Tom Tillis of North Carolina, along with Rand Paul of Kentucky and Susan Collins of Maine, expressed their objections to the president’s domestic policy initiative. Tillis, a moderate who announced his retirement after a procedural vote against Trump, pointed to concerns over Medicaid reforms as key reasons for his dissent.
Collins, also considered moderate, preferred the Senate’s original strategy involving two bills and opposed the president’s initiatives citing apprehensions over Medicaid changes in the budget. Paul, on the other hand, rejected the Senate bill primarily due to its proposed $5 trillion debt ceiling, indicating he would support the bill only if it did not impose such an increase.
