Bird flu detected in milk from at Maricopa County facility

Maricopa County dairy facilities have been placed under quarantine after bird flu was detected in milk supply, according to the Agriculture Department.

Maricopa County, Arizona – A Maricopa County dairy facility has been placed under quarantine after bird flu was detected in milk supply.

This dairy cow does not show symptoms of disease, but if so, they will be separated from the other herds.

H5N1 detection was part of the Arizona Department of Arizona Department of Arizona’s Milk Testing Initiative on Local Farms last month.

All dairy products in Arizona have been tested at least once, and so far only one positive test has been reported, the agency said.

This detection has nothing to do with recent bird flu detections reported in Nevada.

Federal health officials recently reported that Nevada dairy workers have been infected with a new type of avian flu, a different version from the version that has been spreading to US flocks since last year, according to the Associated Press.

The Agriculture Department said pasteurized milk and dairy products should be safely consumed.
