YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – This November, Yuma County voters will have a say on a proposal that would generate funding for Yuma Elementary School District 1.
Prop 428 would provide $77 million worth of bonds for renovations.
The school district says it is one of the oldest schools in Arizona.
This is the first time in decades that an entire district has been renovated.
Frank Nunez, executive director of “Yes is best for our kids,” talks about how this will benefit not only the district but the community as well.
“When it comes to healthy property values, healthy communities, we know that healthy, safe and renovated schools increase the value of the entire community,” Nunez said.
Former middle school teacher David Akins gives insight into how beneficial the new money could be.
“It’s always a positive thing to put more money into teaching because then students have the materials they need to be effective in the classroom,” Akins said. Ta.
If approved, the bond would add an average of more than $3 to each property owner’s hometown tax on an assessed value of $100,000 in Yuma County.
