A tale of two accusations.
In one of the most popular iterations, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to charges that closely match the crimes he committed. Another (less common, but ultimately more accurate) testimony had Hunter grossly under-charged for a crime no one wanted to talk about.
It’s not hard to guess which version the corporate media runs on. To justify reports that Hunter was properly indicted, the media focused on crimes actually pursued by the Justice Department, conveniently sidestepping criminal charges that IRS whistleblowers claim prosecutors ignored. bottom. The media mobilized an army of “experts” to assure the public that Hunter was not, in fact, receiving a “bounty”.lover dealIn fact, experts say he may even have been overbilled. CNN is the classic “Experts question‘ but the Wall Street Journal ran a more neutral headline.Prosecutors will also consider’ But both came to about the same conclusion.
gun charge
Hunter’s federal gun possession charges are for possessing a gun as an addict, not for lying on a firearms purchase form. When both media outlets spoke to experts, they agreed that it was “unusual” for the accusation to be brought in isolation. Drug and assault charges are usually brought together when prosecutors “have other concerns about the defendant.” “It’s rare to even see someone prosecuted under the same laws that Hunter Biden was prosecuted,” one expert told CNN.
The journal researched more than 100 federal lawsuits involving the same charges, and the rare, isolated cases are usually caused by prosecutors exaggerating “threats of violence or previous criminal records.” turned out to be to compensate for
Hunters are a rare case of this. He has no criminal record of violence, but has not been charged with any other charges related to his possession. Gun charges seem pretty decent, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The real scandal is bundled with tax issues.
tax
Hunter pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges for failing to pay taxes in 2017 and 2018.
The magazine found “several challenges that favor plea bargain negotiations.” A felony would have required Hunter to prove that he “took deliberate steps to evade or fraudulently reduce taxes.”Given his drug turmoil, this would be hard to prove. after his brother died Misdemeanors are common for simply failing to pay.
One expert told CNN that “Uncle Sam suffered no harm and justice was served” since Hunter. paid Another went further, claiming that “if Hunter Biden’s name was John or Jane Doe, criminal prosecution would never have been considered.”
All this would be quite appropriate…if this were the full text. However, media reports exclude all other crimes that the IRS whistleblower claims to have committed – presumably intentionally. (Related: ‘Somebody’s Lying’: Byron Donald Claims Merrick Garland Intervened in Hunter’s Case)
according to Whistleblower testimony An IRS official investigating the investigation told the House Ways and Means Committee earlier this month that Hunter had a number of tax problems between 2014 and 2019. This testimony leaves a gaping hole in the media coverage.
Hunter allegedly failed to pay taxes on a deal with notorious Ukrainian energy company Burisma. Burisma paid Hunter more than $650,000 in 2014, according to whistleblowers, who soon moved to a Chinese company run by one of his colleagues. The company then “lent” him the money back, so he no longer had to pay taxes. The problem, as the whistleblower points out, is that “you can’t finance yourself with your income.”
However, the whistleblower said, “None of these have been paid or prosecuted,” adding that the statute of limitations has “passed” for the 2014 tax year.
The 2018 filing also shows that Hunter filed numerous absurd deductions. IRS officials interviewed multiple parties to confirm that Hunter’s golf membership was in fact a membership to a sex club, or that his “West Coast Assistant” was in fact a prostitute. .
The whistleblower said Hunter’s personal “involvement” amounted to “going through bank statements and highlighting items he had excluded from deductions.” His accountants expressed great displeasure with the situation, stating that they “actually had him… sign a statement”, personally certifying all deductions.
By 2020, Hunter owed a whopping $2.2 million in unpaid taxes. A wealthy benefactor named Ed Morris, whom Hunter met through a fundraiser, actually paid the bill, according to the whistleblower. Hunter’s 2020 filing was accompanied by a memo explaining that “the taxpayer received financial assistance from his personal friends totaling approximately $1.4 million.” Harris paid off the rest of the balance over the next few months. But technically just because he paid off his debt doesn’t mean he didn’t commit a crime in the process, the whistleblower said.
All this subverts the media narrative in three ways.
First, it goes beyond mere nonpayment to demonstrate attempts to actively avoid paying taxes. Hunter personally participated in making unreasonable deductions on the 2018 tax returns. Additionally, his deals with Burisma and Chinese companies were made before crack usage escalated, so defenses against addiction are also crippled. Finally, while it is not illegal to receive tax assistance, it certainly undermines the media implication that Hunters are good citizens correcting their own mistakes. Rather, he was saved because of the privilege of being the son of a president.
None of these were part of a recent plea bargain, yet the Justice Department decided to settle them all with just two misdemeanor counts. Based on the whistleblower’s testimony, Hunter could have been properly charged in these two cases, but should have been charged with more serious crimes from the start. Instead, he’s scored the ultimate sweetheart deal, and the corporate press is working overtime to cover it all up.
